Medical Education in India

AS a result of the passing of the Bogus Medical Degrees Bill, it is feared private medical schools and colleges will not be established in future, and it is uncertain to what extent the indigenous medical systems will be improved. Dr. S. K. Mullick, however, has explained to an interviewer that much good will be done by the course of vernacular education in medicine without which the latest Act would have dealt a severe blow to medical education. He said that the Vaids and Hakims would learn chemistry and be more efficient in their line in future. Physiology and pathology, said he, cannot differ in east or west, and there could be no such thing as different systems of medicine, and what was good for human relief should be no more the prerogative of one system than the elements of light, air and water.
